Reaction all started back in April 06 by Radical Twang, with the support and help from Kaysha Sion. After she had seen some of Rad's artworks he had displayed in his art gallery, she insisted he put his skills to use in SL, showing him the marketing side of things, and the basic methods to attract and sell his stuff to the SL community. So after pushing and nudging him to give it a try, Rad took a step forward to create mens casual clothing, but sticking with Kay's own personal rule of creating everything, without sourcing! References and inspirations are still sometimes used though, and this separates Reaction from most designers who go out, find a shirt and basically just copy and paste the shirt onto a template.
Kaysha started Rad off by allowing him to place, and sell his first designs from her store "WRONG", until he reached around ten different items to sell. By then, he opened his first store. It was a small stone tiki temple, located high in the sky, in Sanddalgi, which was right next door toKay's store. Rad filled that little store up pretty quickly, and found himself looking for new land to expand on. He had found a large water plot in Yeanim, and built what became a favorite store design by his customers. To show his gratitude towards Kay, he had set up a spot inside the store for her "WRONG" clothes, along with "roxee", now known as "Refuge", owned by Trinitee Trilam, of whom he spent most of his SL time with, and who actually introduced him to SL to begin with.
Since then, Rad and Kay built up their names, and items to a point, that they agreed on getting a sim together, and by April 07, "Alternation" was made with both their stores located neck to neck. They built the sim up to feel like a small Aussie town, with roads, houses, stores and a nice off track beach. All the stores, and residents in Alternation, were all Australian. Reaction's first store in Alternation was a large multi level building, which was very stylish, but didn't quite throw off the casual/surf feel. Not too long after, Reaction expanded, being double the size, and also splitting into a separate girl’s store, directly accross the road, to what it is now, and to what it will expand to in the future.
Some people tend to look twice at some of Reaction's clothing, asking themselves if it's really not sourced. Fact: Nothing is sourced. Everything you see in Reaction has been designed, pixel by pixel, from scratch. New techniques are learned to improve newer clothing items along the way. Items like jeans, are made up of three or four overlaid noise/grunge/dirt textures, displacement maps, and with pockets being made from a nifty trick, involving the pen tool, and the smudge tool. Leading onto further detailed things, like camo pants, becomes even more time consuming, as a bunch of shapes are custom shaped, and randomly overlaid, 100's of times, then followed by the finishing touches. Tutorials will never be shown, and lessons won't be given, though the time that goes into the clothing, is to ensure that those of you wanting to get the full experience out of SL, can get closer to it by knowing they're wearing quality clothes to make them stand out from the crowd.
Reaction aims to encourage and support all its customers into getting the full experience out of the surf community in Second Life.
